Grand Opening of Buona’s New Restaurant in Algonquin
The City of Algonquin, IL is buzzing these days with excitement. The source of the excitement? The grand opening of Buona’s new restaurant location, which is most parts throughout Chicago, is regarded as the home of the world’s best Italian Beef. Sure, many restaurants lay claim to having the “Best” Italian Beef, but at Buona’s they speak the truth. Finally, one of Chicagoland’s best Italian Beef restaurants is coming to Algonquin, IL.
Buona’s has been owned and operated for over 30 years by the Buonavolanto family, beginning with Joe Buonavolanto, Sr. But that was not actually the beginning of the family business of selling high quality sausage and beef. Joe Sr’s Uncle, opened the now legendary “Mr. Beef” remaining the best beef supplier on Orleans.
Joe Sr’s dream was to open his own Italian beef restaurant and with guidance from his Uncle and a 2nd mortgage on his house, Joe Sr., with two of his 5 boys, broke ground for where the restaurant would be built. In the meantime, Peggy, Joe Sr’s, wife created a recipe for Italian beef and with the help of family from Mr. Beef, the great Buona Italian Beef recipe was created. The recipe did not include preservatives or additives. There were no shortcuts to making the best Italian beef in Chicago.
All the ingredients in the Italian Beef are natural, the beef is slow roasted and perfectly seasoned. That was the recipe 30 years ago and it continues to be the same today. The Buona Family refuses to compromise time versus quality.
The first restaurant, which was one of the first Italian Beef restaurant outside of City limits, the five boys worked in the restaurant learning and working each position. Since the first restaurant, the Buona family has since expanded to 18 locations in the Chicagoland area and the five sons are just as passionate as their father, Joe Sr.
This family operates only on integrity, without comprise. Their success as a family business is based on their core values: Love, Respect and Pride.

It is not all about the food for the Buona family, they are proud to serve the local community. For example, Buona created a special Italian Beef – Make it A Rizzo – to help Cub’s 1st Baseman’s, Anthony Rizzo’s charity “Help Knock Cancer Out of the Park”. The Buona organization donates a portion of the proceeds to the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation.
Buona’s offers assistance with fundraisers by catering the events at a low cost. One such fundraiser is “Buona School Lunch Program”. The philanthropy of the Buona Family does not end with the Lunch Program. They are involved with a multitude of programs that are committed to improving and helping the community.
